In this article, we will be talking about Alaska hunting, covering some essential tips and tricks that you can benefit from if you plan on making your Alaska hunting trip memorable.

Do your research about the area and your hunting guide.

Whenever you go hunting, get all your facts about hunting regulations in that area. Find out about the legalities involved so that you don’t get talked into doing something illegal by the tour guides. Remember hunting with an inexperienced guide could put you in a very sticky and unsafe situation. Following the Alaska Professional Hunters Association Code of Ethics is an excellent place to look for what constitutes a higher-level, more experienced professional guide. Make sure your guide cares about some of the critical ethics involved with hunting wildlife:

  • To institute and secure the general adoption of a high and sportsmanlike conception of wildlife and hunting of game
  • To promote hunting by fair chase: the pursuit of a trophy in a legal and sportsmanlike manner, without herding, driving, or chasing trophies with the use of mechanically powered equipment

  • Consistent with the practice of hunting, fishing, and photography, to promote and assist in the conservation of fauna and flora and to cooperate with Government officials concerned with the conservation of flora and fauna

  • To assist in the prevention of illegal or unsportsmanlike practices by anyone in the practice of professional hunting or by anyone engaged in the sports of hunting, fishing, or photography

  • To promote and safeguard the interests of all members of this corporation
  • To endorse and foster a code of business ethics in accord with ethical standards and the laws and regulations of the State of Alaska

Know your firearm

Get yourself a rifle that you are genuinely comfortable using because it is integral if you want to make your Alaska hunting trips successful and get your hands on a decent catch. On the other hand, don’t go too overboard with wanting heavy guns if you don’t know how to operate them because you may be unable to manage them during the hunt. On the contrary, even if you have the more traditional basic hunting weapons and the skill required to shoot your catch effectively, you will find the experience much more enjoyable.

Bring your devices

If you wish to stay connected with family and friends, always bring in your devices; however, many people appreciate the remoteness of the experience and take this disconnection as a means of relaxing and dealing with burnout from day-to-day activities. However, some essential items to bring will be instructed by your outfitter. Your hunting guide will also have the necessary equipment to ensure your hunt is enjoyable.

Practice is the key

Always remain patient in your hunting endeavors, especially when on an Alaska bear hunting mission because it might take some time before you find a decent bear or catch in general. Listen and follow your guide’s instructions; they are professionals and help you bring in the catch of a lifetime.
